Introduction:

The Hong Kong Social Workers Association (HKSWA) was founded in 1949. As a professional body for social workers, our objectives are to foster a high standard of professional practice and ethics of social work in Hong Kong and to concern on matters related to the profession, welfare issues and policies. For the past 63 years, the Association has been active in matters related to the profession development and the well-being of the community.


Objective:

This certificate course intends to provide social workers with a distinctive tool to identify typical symptoms of some common psychiatric problems in Hong Kong and helps to acquire knowledge and skills in handling clients with mental problems that are bothering the worker and clients’ families. The objectives of this course are:-

1)     To familiarize social workers with the common psychiatric problems in Hong Kong.
2)     To study the symptoms of these psychiatric problems
3)     To acquire a basic understanding of handling clients with mental problems

MB ChB (CUHK), MRC Psych (UK), FHKCPsych, FHKAM (Psychiatry)
Associate Consultant, Dept. of Psychiatry, Shatin Hospital/ Prince of Wales Hospital.
Honorary Assistant Professor, Dept. of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Dr. LIN has delivered more than 100 lectures/ workshops & media programs to audience on mental health issues, happiness & positive psychology to various organizations including universities, governmental department, NGOs etc. He has also written a book on depression (開心抗抑鬱手冊 <第二版> -- 明窗出版社) "the Happy Handbook on Fighting against Depression -- 2nd Edition" for teaching the public practical tips on combating depression.

* Subjects will be reviewed regularly and new subjects may be introduced in future to reflect the changes in the needs of the field.

 

Award of Certificate :

The Certificate will be awarded to participants with attendance ALL subjects. Participants are also required to submit a reflective note on how they apply their skills learned in the course to their daily work if requested by the speaker.

Unless with special reasons such as illness, accidents, the Certificate will not be awarded to participants who without attend all subjects. Time clashes with duty commitments will not be accepted as a valid reason for unsatisfactory attendance.
 

Exemption:

Those who have participated in the related courses conducted by Dr. LIN Wei could apply for exemption upon registration.
 

Enrolment Principles:

  1. All applications would be served on first-come-first-served basis.
  2. The acceptance notice, program schedule with the official receipt will be sent to all successful applicants by mail.
  3. In principle, no refund or transfer to other person is allowed. Special conditions should be stated by the applicant in writing and subject to the Education Committee's final endorsement on case-by-case basis.

Arrangement in Bad Weather:

  1. When typhoon signal No.8 or black rainstorm is hoisted, all programs will be cancelled. Arrangement will be followed up by respective course coordinator afterwards.
  2. When typhoon signal is lowered to No.3 or below or black rainstorm is cancelled 3 hours before the commencement of the program, the program will be carried out as scheduled.

  2. Settle the payment by either one of the following methods:
    1. send a crossed cheque payable to "Hong Kong Social Workers Association" to Room 703 Duke of Windsor Social Service Building, 15 Hennessy Road, Wanchai. Please write the course code and your name at the back of the cheque.
    2. Transfer to our Hong Kong Bank Account (No.:002-7-216878) and then send the original bank-in slip to our Office. Please write the course code and your name at the back of the slip.
  3. Successful participants will be notified by email or by fax within one week after the deadline.
